Well i have my OS installed on my C drive but would like my ''documents folder'' to be on my external drive, as then if i have to format my comp i dont loose any information at all.

I know i could just make a new folder on my external called ''documents'' etc but when you go to save something it has shortcuts to my documents etc.

So im just wondering if theres a setting i can change so everything gets redirected to my external rather than the documents on my c drive.

Would be very grateful if anyone can help me.

dont think so, because if you external happened to be turned off your pc would probably throw a major hissy fit with the amount of files it couldnt find.

Ok, thanx urban.

Questions though...

1. If my external wasnt connected would it still boot fine and just ask for a new location of my documents?

or...?

Yes it will boot fine, as long as theres nothing in the folder which is needed at boot time. Even if there is it will only be an error prompt at worst.

In otherwords, don't go installing startup items in there.

Incase your wanting to change other directories such as the location of the desktop, use the 'special folders' option in this;

Thank you Leo, much appreciated,

May change desktop too as it will prevent me loosing as little as possible.

I'll see how it goes.
