Mir2 uses a Flat Filing System which means once a person changes a few IP's/Server names, it can be up and running in 5 mins flat. As the files do not contain Quests and many other features, again this is very easy to share out and for other people to run. This though in itself leads to a problem, anybody can just download a set of files, change a few settings and another new server is born.

One of the Great things about Mir3 2.9 was that as people were restricted to what they could do with the files - people HAD to think around the box to add stuff - as people do now with mir2. no map maker exists for Mir3, so your stuck with the Stock maps, mobs can be added from both Mir2 & Woool to give some varity. Mir3 though is limited to mob files 1-20 and Dmon, same with Armours & Wepaons. The newer files MAY get past this limiation but again, we are held back as the chinese want to sell this to people and even then when people do buy the files - they are left high & Dry with a None-Working Set of files.

Personally I am not 100% Sure of how much life is left period in Both Mir2 & Mir3 as less and less people are interested in doing anything with it. Any new features is only good for about 5 mins until the novelity wears off - people are concentrating on Items / Mobs and not on the actual game play...

I think you are wrong there. I have been actively helping Xtreme with various add-ons, and although it will NEVER change the way you play Mir3 (Why would anyone want to? - then it wouldn't be Mir3..) it is adding more and more things to make playing the basic game more fun, giving options that are available nowhere else.

Xtreme Additions -
R.A.G.E. - Logs and accumulates Kills on a specific weapon allowing further Refines based on points earned via Boss/Sub-Boss Kills
Career system - As stated above by CV.
The UnderWorld Maps (Completed by SSJ4) - Are a system I haven't seen anywhere on Mir 3
Casino - Giving a plethora of new games to gamble your hard earned cash with.
And More...

None of these takes away from the basic game play (which means you still have to go and kill mobs), but adds an element of game play where you can do something else when killing mobs just gets to you and you want a break.

I don't want to turn this into a "Look @ Xtreme" post, because this isn't just restricted to Xtreme, I have played Illusion server where Coly has done great things with the way Mir3 plays and looks as well as other supporting things for Mir3 which make it easier to make the servers and run them. Alot of these people are actively helping to make Mir 3 better and to push the boundaries of what you can do in Mir3.

I do believe that Mir3 (and Mir 2) stand as the most popular MMORPG BECAUSE of its simple gameplay and its ease of setting up (both to play and to host). To want any more from Mir 3 is to make it NOT Mir 3, but to turn it into something else entirely, at which point, most people will just go and play something else.

Finally, as you can see, I am an avid Mir 3 fan (as I was of Mir 2 before it), I believe there is A LOT more scope in what can be done in Mir 3, don't lay it to rest just yet.

Well I scripted a proffession system* for Mir3 which will be in my new Mir3 server coming up within the next week, that was all done using NameLists. As long as people use their heads and have an imagination you can do stuff that people havent done before and as long as people are thinking in them lines we'll be going forwards and not back.

People are just born lazy and dont want to put that extra bit of work into there server, they exspect everything to be handed them on a plate.
There is so much more that can be done with the Mir3 server files and so much more can be added.

Im currently adding all new database's to the ones that i all ready have, all for different things that i want my server to have. With a little time and patience and the use of your brain other people can also do this. Its not hard to use your imagination, the hard bit is using your imagination and implementing stuff into Mir3 and unfortunatly people seem to lack this.

Mir3 can be pushed past its boundries but how many people are willing to do this, not a lot. Some of the servers that are comming out are good servers but others all they are intrested in is making money.
You only have to look at euro Mir3 by QGO to understand how this screwed them up. If people just took the time to work on there servers instead of opening them up to early just to get the highest player count, then there would be a good few server out there. But as it stands your lucky if you get 1 or 2 good servers.

People need to take there time and enjoy the creative side of a server and not rush to get things up and running.

Couldnt agree more and very well said imo.

I mean some people put up servers not even knowing how to setup the AMS, if you dont know how to setup the AMS you shouldnt be running a server.

And you'll be seeing a great deal of information from me on lomcn to do with the Mir3 Files to help people move in the right direction.

I have also done much work on mir3, for the olymp server, the boundaries are endless really. I have coded an SQL routine to read and wirte from SQL tables, allowing more quest flags to be used, I have coded an item (armour, ring, boots, helm) refine and namer, I have coded skills to level 6 and I'm currently finishing a Guild House script and plan to add intelligent banking systems by which loans are based on levels.
Server side I am writing a new program to extend the features of the mir3 server and this will be released time permitting.
I think that if you put your mind to it, you can pretty much do anything.
