What's crimbo.

Giving you what you asked for:

Giving you better advice:

Save another 50-100 pounds for something a lot better and with a lot more upgrading available.

yeah but for the cash the semporns the best budget cpu acout at the moment in my opinion i got 4 machines 3 athlons and that sempron the sempron is a great machien just lacks less cache and other features then the athlon fx and my x2
i wish i never brought an athlon 64 3700 + cos its piss poor

Less cache, different architecture, no dual channel ram, all these contribute to the fact that it's a horrible CPU when compared to a regular low end CPU but for the price it's a nice budget CPU.

However, I stand by what I say:

Spend another 50-100 pounds for s939 and it's a world of performance difference.

The Athlon 64 3700+ SD is a great CPU, although a little off for its cost per performance.

So... there are HUGE differences between chips in the same family. Don't think so? Look at the differences between the FX, 64, and sempron lines clock for clock.

The bottom line is you get what you pay for, and while the sempron is a good, descent CPU it doesn't change the fact it's a budget CPU and can't hang with the desktop and enthusiest CPU lines (64 and FX).

Why buy a budget CPU on old tech hardware (s754...) when for 50 pounds more you can get an A64 and s939?

And if I were you I would save my money for the new sockets.
