Warrior and Sin casuals should feel it the most when behind, they won't have the stats or item requirements to compete. The others will be useful in regards to flinching I guess, Taoist is looking top tier for anyone who feels they don't have much time to play.

Just a very "meh" scenerio from the looks.

I guess people play mir for different reasons, my only reason is to relax, and i quite enjoy the grind and the chance of that great drop. i enjoy the PvE aspect much more than the PvP, for some its all about the PvP.

for some its all about being that top (insert class here). for others its about socialising and playing with friends.

whatever your reason for playing is, no one server will please everyone, i dont try to create one and i wont. my server is basically what i enjoy and i feel is right, that doesnt mean i wont change something (take energyshield for example).

there are plenty of catch up mechanics, you can craft exp potion, you can buy exp potions (possibly undecided yet) lower levels have a much greater rested exp bonus.

i dont really understand what you mean when you say warr and sin casuals will feel it the most when behind. Feel what exactly? that there not the top class? well unless you plan to hardcore it you never will be, they wont feel left behind because there not in the race because there casuals... they just go to whatever cave they feel like hunting and enjoy it, or join a guild and enjoy the social side.

i get confused by your angle sometimes and what your trying to say about the classes,.

the only thing i do know is you hate the pvp balance of the server ^^

but in my mind 2 players of exacting class/skill/kit/connection, the winner should always be the highest level, i dont see how any other factor should be implemented.

I think the point he’s making is that it compounds a problem that already exists. If the above factors were all the same, as it currently stands the higher lvl should win anyway on the basis of additional base stats, HP etc. so what is the need to increase this further? in this scenario the grinders just get even further ahead from the casuals and nullify your catch up mechanics anyway.

Mir is already so dependent on the grind which leaves casual players miles behind hardcore players as it is, this just means the gap gets bigger more quickly. A lower lvl with better kit should be able to use that as an advantage, this scenario looks like it will make even harder to rely on other factors to try and balance the odds. I’m not sure how the class difference matters though. I think being higher lvl already gives you a strong advantage which snowballs in many ways, so it’s hard to imagine that this will improve the experience but who knows.

@Sanjian I respect what you want to create, my queries and frustrations are from playing the top heavy commitment mmo's (UO, Lineage 2, Archeage, BDO) and top mir servers (Jamie's Marble, Zircon, Valk V1, I've played very little of chronicles though!).

Balance, roles, overall playerbase health have all eventually been destroyed on every mmo that I've played and I've played them all competively, developers have a vision but their development focus usually ends up being "how can we make the meta classes more enjoyable" "What content can we provide the most commited playerbase" "What can we do to improve our marketting". In that mindset, they forget about the playerbase as a whole and new/up and coming players, they feel if they don't keep their commited players the happiest they'll lose everything but the truth is, only growth via new players and working on the base game as a whole (not new content usually aimed at higher lvls) will keep an mmo running efficiently and growing.

I take these Private Mir servers seriously, I think Mir has a lot of potential for a lot more players outside of the 300 or so playerbase, I believe if things are done right, with promotions aimed towards areas like Reddit/MMORPG that this game could have a near 1000 playerbase.

Every suggestion I make, is towards growth and making sure the competitive element for every player is there because if most of the playerbase doesn't have anything to fight for then, in regards to Mir, they are simply PvE'ing on some old asian looking Diablo and other games will gladly take them in if they're after a competitive itch (CoD, LoL, Fortnite, some fighting game, whatever!).

The way Mir has been, has been far from perfect to retain a playerbase and most if not all of Mir's private servers have done very little to remedy that and they've actually in some aspects amplified issues.

I'll end this with Mir's Assassin (even though I don't have much Chronicles experience!).

I said Warrior and Sin won't be enjoying the game if behind on levels but at least Warrior has a niche of red poison and monster taunt (good job!).

What is the niche of Assassin on most servers, well it has to be PvP killing right? Well no, they don't really have much more than a Warrior in that regard and outside of PvP in comparison, terrible, no AoE, no CC's, a lot less health, rubbish.
Chronicles was the only server to have a niche for Sin outside of single target PvP damage, they could rush to and solo subs and bosses, making them a threat to their competition and providing them with at least some kind of role (Which made it clear to me when Jamie's discord was filled with backlash from Sin's "Well If I can't do this wtf am I good for!?").

It's no surprise to me anyway, Chronicles lasted a pretty long time, something to think about ;p

For me the assassin is a new class, especially when placed inside the euro i rememeber because it never exsisted, exactly the same as the archer, so i have altered a lot of how it works on base crystal files.

the main change is the removal of flashdash which is terrible and added in Ambush, para target and teleport behind it. The back attack damage is amplified on the server and for sins fatalsword on a back attack could be extremely nasty, higher end skills like CrescentSlash have been redone and the damage is nasty enough to warrent the mass killing, like BladeAvalanche for warriors, its always been a pants skill and used to kill bugbats thats about it, but not here.

the BA is imo a forwards aoe skill that can apply slow/poison based on your gemmed stats ofc. but the damage is nice, especially if levelled. the mana use has been increased to also compensate for the damage so its not a free spammable aoe skill.

back to the assassin, the moonlight skills duration has been greatly increased so your duration of stealth is massive and also implemented the ability to hide from players if your higher than them even at close range (default is you can see anyone stealthed 3 squares away)

i guess only a beta will tell if the changes made are significant enough.

the beta wont be start at level 1 and play the game, it will more than likely be log in start at level 50 and just try and break what you can, have access to all skills and top gear, i dont think a beta should be a test live, ive tested almost every aspect as much as i can for a single person.

people need to remember im a 1 man team, apart from the cardgame which i payed lcd to do for me because i would never have done it on my own, everything else has been done by me.

i did start on the monk, got the weapons, animations and armours all in game and started working on the spells from scratch, did about 5 of them and the main attack set up was similar to mir3 assassin using combos to increase attacks, ill try and find the video i did of it.

but i dont think ill include it into this server tbh....

The lvl 50 PvP test should be a good test, with gem'd kit, to show what impact skills which now scale through gemming and levels which is exciting.

Ambush is great, Sins needed the bite, like a Warrior charging in or a Wizard who's got the firewalls ready.

The issue has always been that growth stage though, not when everyone is equal level.

Wizards, dominate the levelling phase, we don't yet know how impactful gemming/natural adds will be on this server, they don't lose enough dura, they AoE farm like no 2moro (both ensure they are gold efficient) and due to fast lvling rate they can repulse every player who is a threat to their life (no cooldown, spammable repulse, only on low popularity game like Mir can a skill like this still exist in this current state).
Wizards having huge levelling advantages is an issue, as dedicated Wiz players (Jesus, Kori, Excala and a few more sorry ;p) will team up with the "old faithful", they and their guilds will dominate whatever spaces they choose to be at and they will dictate the tempo and economy of the game, they'll get rich and the only contest they'll have is "I think we only need a few peeps to solo this boss now, with this strat".

We still don't know if there will be high level pets to be tamed by Wiz's ( lvl 7 Fox Cave Ranged Frogs? The class with no issues gets more reward....for some reason, just Mir things ;p ).

If Tao's have their repulse same issue, just less impactful on the health of the game as a buffed up Tao isn't a massive threat even to lower players level....on his own. Shoulderdash is an aggressive move for the most part, not too much of an issue (unaware of Crystal Archer's capability to peel for himself).

Imagine if I start 2 months in as a Warrior or Sin, I rely heavily on a Tao/Wiz friend for farming/sustain to be "optimally levelling" as best I can, If their is unlimited levelling I might have no chance to be a threat to them. How much "hunger" is a player going to need to stick with the game so he can be a threat competively, they will want that btw when any of the high lvls march through for their bosses and there is no hope of contesting them.

"This is a grind game" is an old concept with the games we have today, Mir hasn't evolved yet but so not yet have most MMORPG's, I'm relying on Valk to prove me wrong on that one though.

Sorry if I'm going in too deep for some but I'm too old for the grind and dominate everyone no contest that games like Lineage 2 was all about, Mir DOES have the potential to be a balanced strategy game, without the level dominance. I hope you enjoy being a server owner Sanj, I'll probably give it a bash but I'm afraid it will be a rinse and repeat of the old story, the guys who have more hours to hand are too heavily rewarded.

Loving it! looking forward to playing :)

Only suggestion for me is on the Tao front as balance wise Taos are unable to defend themselves until they have the likes of Curse / Deva / PC but there all crazy high lvl to obtain and all showing as Mythical where all other classes have damage / def skills at lower lvl with less rarity and I find on most servers i will never use all 3 pets in combination will always be the same 2 pets 99% of time making the other pet usually shinz taking off skill bar which never feels right with having shinz + Deva obtained so close together. Never understood Deva being so rare as I would happily trade Deva (Mythical) for FlameField (Mythical) as a skill lol

This is a problem I find across nearly all servers even with Euro but understand was Euro implementing these skills later on to potentially fix this issue or reward a class that took a lot more effort to lvl with powerful abilties as once you got curse / PC you were a force to be reckoned with to make up for 40 lvls of being stomped haha I say stomped but i always found euro files much easier to handle Melee people. Find it quite difficult on crystal files to dodge melee people.

Either way looking forward to grinding a few lvls late at night in Prajana Island haha

that sin double slash needs tweaking

the animation is way too slow as i have seen it in previous servers and they got it fix cause when u try double slashing a moving target the sin will have to stand still till the animation is finished and by then the target wud be steps away

how servers fix this is by speeding up the animation so it feels more smooth

maybe ask Chriz they had same issue in artificial and he got it fixed he would for sure explain it better :D

Taos now gain EnergyShield at level 32 i think it is cant remeber without looking as ive been doing so much recently ive forgotten what i changed it to.

SummonSkele is abit of a beast, untill Shunsu, HolyDeva has been completely revamped and has access to 4 skills, an agressive Tbolt, a heal spell which it builds up by using tbolt and will also cast BA and SS so you can remove those from your bar.

The early stages of a tao are always trecherous because the end game tao becomes undeniebly one of the strongest classes, so you suffer earlygame to reap the rewards late game. if you can stomache the time to get to late game ^^

i will be playing more than likely every class at some point during the servers lifetime because i will need to feel how they play on the live server.

as a little update ive been working on remodeling mob ais, reorganising and tidying other bits up... silly things like how MTKs ranged attack isnt drawn behind and looks crap so now its drawn behind the player and looks proper. for me its those little things (100's of them that ive worked on) that make the server feel great.

most people ignore the little things that ive noticed on many a server in the past and it makes the server feel cheap and rushed and i dont like it. little things like a mob swinging a weapon but the damage numbers have already been taken off, i have gone to gret lengths to ensure that when you swing a weapon and it hits something, then you see the damage numbers/flinch having a mob flinch you before its even swung... ewwww.

some bosses have a deathtimer (basically you kill it before the timer hits 0 or you die). ive finally got it able to show clientside aswell so you have a rough idea of when your going to die :)

MTK with behinddrawn aoe and deathtimer oh and a peek at the new slavecave map im using

Image 42.Jpeg

with regards to new/revamped AI's this is my list of completed mobs so far.

1:00 in the video i have no attackspeed about 2:26 i have haste bufff, you can clearly see the difference, i dont see the need to speed it up any further

EDIT: with regards to doubleslash and interrupting it, its been brough up in the past, if you swing at a player (with any class) the animation plays out regardless, most people who play sin feel that after 1 swing they should be able to move if they miss, thats not how it works IMO, the swing will do its animation regardless, even if they hit and the player moves, the player will still take 2 hits of damage.

the animation can be sped up, but wont fix the issue of swinging while players are walking away. your animation is played in time with your attackspeed and the results of your time stood swinging is also in respect to your attackspeed.

@smeghead2 As a Tao fan I really don't like Deva, obviously this flinching rat is great when target's are singled out but I think it would fit much more to theme if Deva was a "holy summon" instead. Example would be something along the lines of a 45 sec - 1min cooldown ability, you "drop it" and it blue freezes in a small aoe, then shines brightly for 5 seconds on that spot and gives something beneficial before vanishing (what I don't know quite yet though).

It pisses me off a little inside that "skele has to go" for a floating rat :p

The Deva change will be interesting in a good way, it heal's the Tao only?

Well the Tao role wise has always been needed, interested how you would rate it as a potential best class though, 1v1 pvp ye it's almost impossible to deal with a great kitted and skilled Tao but it seems with the gemming etc then that the Bosses aren't going to be tough or strong enough (so pets stay alive pretty comfortably then from sounds of it), so Tao would probably be awesome in that aspect.

deva has been redesigned to be more of a support summon in a sense, if you want maximum damage you would use shinsu and skele, i would bring a deva for group play but not for solo play tbh

EDIT: i have actually just halved deva damage output because of wanting it as a supportive role than devestation role

New Information - RE Subscriptions

I toyed with the idea of adding a subscription of £3 a month for players level 11 and over and was recieved with plenty of if "its p2p then im not playing" and generally it was regarded as a bad feature.

Yesturday i purchased a VPS to test the stability of the server on and for me it ran well, untill i stress tested it with multiple connections and it sucked badly. so the VPS is out of the window. Im looking at requiring £53 a month for a dedicated server with a windows licence and ddos protection hosted in uk/france because of this i need to make money on the server to cover the costs, something ive not done in the past all that well so this is new territory for me really.

So heres my issue with you lot (the general forum population that dislikes the p2p feature) you consider a p2p server as a huge negative even if its £3 a month! Yet a server has a £40, 2 month battlepass? (and this is not aimed at a negative towards Bon i enjoyed the server for about 30 minutes untill i saw the lack of effort spent on the aestetics of it so it is a negative in terms of the feel of the server not in terms of the work done, alot of work has been done) No one really minds the overpricing and im sat here thinking hang on a sec... somethings not right here if £3 a month is ott...

So heres what im doing on my server. Regardelss of feedback from said people.

With regards to the subscription system that was scrapped, i have decided to add in the ability to buy a subscription (500 HuntTokens) this will last for 30 days from the moment of purchase and will give the player a static 15% exp/drop/gold buff.

Other things LOCKED behind subscriptions. Players can play/level/hunt all they like as a non subscriber. But on order to gain access to certain features a subscription will need to be active on the account.

Subscribers gain access to Using Gems/Mounts/Companions/DailyQuests/GuildCreation/GuildWarRequesting

What does this mean? This means pretty much what it looks like, if your account is not a subscriber then you cannot use Gems, ride Mounts, Summon Companions, Accept DailyQuests, create Guilds, start GuildWars. This is all its limited to at this point but I may alter it if need be.

If you feel reading this that its somethign that you dont wish to play then i wish you all the best and hope you enjoy the next server launched with little to no thought about the effort spent in its design (not aimed at any one server, ive played a fair few like it)

How does this translate in a financial capacity?

You will be able to purchase 1000 HuntTokens for £10, thats the only purchase thats going to be available, if you want more you will have to keep buying the £10 PayPal option, there is a button in the gameshop that will take you to the PayPal page. I dont want to waste time designing 10/20.50 paypal buttons as im not interested in making huge amounts of money. i just want to cover the servers costs.

500 HuntTokens are required for a subscription so you could say its a £5 30 day subscription.

Except, players are free to gain HuntTokens while playing and some Quests reward HuntTokens. HuntTokens are gained at the rate of 1 every 5 minutes playing (out of SafeZone), so you could gain a total of 12 Tokens an Hour at a rate of 288 tokens in a 24 hour period or 2.016 a week.

It would be entirely possible to play the server with all its features without every donating a penny, and so it should be.

The gameshop will include Mounts and Companions but these mounts have stats and companions have buffs, so its not exactly just aesthetics. The GameShop will contain Exp Potions but these can also be crafted in game via alchemy.

The gameshop also contains crafting recipes which are required for high end weapons.

Finally, this isnt a p2w server, nor is it a p2p server, but the option to spend money to help fund the server needs to be in place, in my current financial situation i cannot afford to run the server for free.

Atleast your honest about it all @Sanjian you have spent more time than a lot of recent servers on your customisation. Kudos to you on that and I hope you make atleast enough to keep it going as I feel it will be a waist of a very Decent server 👍🏻 and I’m sure your make £50 a month to cover it easy 💪🏻

I don't see an issue. You can gain hunt gold by playing or purchasing and your specifying your reasons are the £53 a month server cost. If the server is fun to play + stable and bring user count I can't see people complaining at £5er sub as again it is optional not mandatory as you can earn HuntGold at a much slower rate simply for playing the server.

Sounds like a good idea to me
