New Information - RE Subscriptions
I toyed with the idea of adding a subscription of £3 a month for players level 11 and over and was recieved with plenty of if "its p2p then im not playing" and generally it was regarded as a bad feature.
Yesturday i purchased a VPS to test the stability of the server on and for me it ran well, untill i stress tested it with multiple connections and it sucked badly. so the VPS is out of the window. Im looking at requiring £53 a month for a dedicated server with a windows licence and ddos protection hosted in uk/france because of this i need to make money on the server to cover the costs, something ive not done in the past all that well so this is new territory for me really.
So heres my issue with you lot (the general forum population that dislikes the p2p feature) you consider a p2p server as a huge negative even if its £3 a month! Yet a server has a £40, 2 month battlepass? (and this is not aimed at a negative towards Bon i enjoyed the server for about 30 minutes untill i saw the lack of effort spent on the aestetics of it so it is a negative in terms of the feel of the server not in terms of the work done, alot of work has been done) No one really minds the overpricing and im sat here thinking hang on a sec... somethings not right here if £3 a month is ott...
So heres what im doing on my server.
Regardelss of feedback from said people.
With regards to the subscription system that was scrapped, i have decided to add in the ability to buy a subscription (500 HuntTokens) this will last for 30 days from the moment of purchase and will give the player a static 15% exp/drop/gold buff.
Other things
LOCKED behind subscriptions. Players can play/level/hunt all they like as a non subscriber. But on order to gain access to certain features a subscription will need to be active on the account.
Subscribers gain access to Using Gems/Mounts/Companions/DailyQuests/GuildCreation/GuildWarRequesting
What does this mean? This means pretty much what it looks like, if your account is not a subscriber then you cannot use Gems, ride Mounts, Summon Companions, Accept DailyQuests, create Guilds, start GuildWars. This is all its limited to at this point but I may alter it if need be.
If you feel reading this that its somethign that you dont wish to play then i wish you all the best and hope you enjoy the next server launched with little to no thought about the effort spent in its design (not aimed at any one server, ive played a fair few like it)
How does this translate in a financial capacity?
You will be able to purchase 1000 HuntTokens for £10, thats the only purchase thats going to be available, if you want more you will have to keep buying the £10 PayPal option, there is a button in the gameshop that will take you to the PayPal page. I dont want to waste time designing 10/20.50 paypal buttons as im not interested in making huge amounts of money. i just want to cover the servers costs.
500 HuntTokens are required for a subscription so you could say its a £5 30 day subscription.
Except, players are free to gain HuntTokens while playing and some Quests reward HuntTokens. HuntTokens are gained at the rate of 1 every 5 minutes playing (out of SafeZone), so you could gain a total of 12 Tokens an Hour at a rate of 288 tokens in a 24 hour period or 2.016 a week.
It would be entirely possible to play the server with all its features without every donating a penny, and so it should be.
The gameshop will include Mounts and Companions but these mounts have stats and companions have buffs, so its not exactly just aesthetics. The GameShop will contain Exp Potions but these can also be crafted in game via alchemy.
The gameshop also contains crafting recipes which are required for high end weapons.
Finally, this isnt a p2w server, nor is it a p2p server, but the option to spend money to help fund the server needs to be in place, in my current financial situation i cannot afford to run the server for free.
