It dont cost to get your site onto google but they got other services other than search the web.

They have Google AdWords and Google AdSense. Both give them a load of money.
They can easily make over £500 on a popular site in google adwords, especially if their keywords are popular ones.
They also own Pisaco or whatever its called, its a photo program which they make money out of.
They have offices worldwide.
