I've been around these forums keeping an eye on what new servers are coming and how the current live servers are doing when it comes to player counts. As the subject says It looks like this game is close to dieing. The usercounts are the lowest ive ever seen them and with no big projects coming along any time soon is this just going to get worse and worse as the months go on.

I have not been playing Mir for a while now and this is purely because the ageing client never works well on my PC or my Laptop so instead of playing it where i have to hover my mouse about 10 pixels away from the actually mob to hit it i thought i would give it a pass. Then the project for Conquera client popped up and i was back in. For the short space of time it was up in the West I had hope that this would be the next chapter for Mir but thats died off as well and I see no updates on it at all so I take it, its dead.

Then Mir4 came along and ruined everything i loved about Mir turned it into a world of crypto and mindless auto playing which is not I wanted out of a Mir sequel. I miss the days of going into Bug Cave and just running around grinding exp and items for hours on end just so i could get involved in some hunts with guilds.

Anyway, is anyone else in the same group as me and think that we are on the verge of losing a game that we all have loved for over 20 years.

You can fix the mouse cursor problem usually by changing resolution or press alt enter twice. It is dieing but there's a bit of a wait atm for the next server by Sanjian. There's always new servers but people don't play them and I don't blame them. Every now and then everybody will jump on a new server, it will hit 300 users for several months then die.

EuroReborn is the next big server. Will be nicely populated and definitely worth playing. You can easily fix mouse problems.

You say you've not played Mir for a while, but then are worried that you're about to lose the game. (You can't use an aging client as an excuse, this hasn't been the case in years).

As the saying goes "Use it or lose it". Mir won't stay alive from people watching it go idly by, it does so by people actively playing and contributing to its community and development.

As Popcorn said,

I have had a go on some of the recent servers and they can be fun for a mess around, but you can always tell when a server won't last long.

I honestly believe that the Euro Reborn will be something that gives Mir a bit of life again, from what the dev has told us he wants something that will be a long lasting, quality server.

Join the discord mate and have a look, I will be very surprised if you aren't impressed with the amount of effort that has been put into everything he has done.

As the xxx said, mir never dies, it just fade away.

It's too old , and too boring sometimes, you can't expect the youth to try it, they got more fancinating games. It is a backyard for old folks. After one day's work, I'd like to grab a beer and hunt some scarecrows.

BTW, in China, mir is still a billion-dollar business nowadays. There's a lot of mir variants being actively developed, and hundreds of unofficial servers being open, roughly hundreds of thousands of players playing, every day! You won't be surprised that on this forum there are already a lot of mir fans from China, even if the site has banned IPs from China...

Mir is timeless. Ageless. It will be alive for just as long as we let it be alive. A true Mir'ite will always be just a click away from playing the game. One does not just simply stop playing mir.

Mir4 gave people what they have been craving for.

An easy way to make money off the whales of Mir. It was never about the game, it was about the botting of 50 accounts, mining Ore, and selling to whales before the market crashed.

The Mir servers of this forum are really no different. The player base fluctuates based on 3 sets of players:
- True Mirians, the players who play Mir for Mir, even the grinding, and hard earned drops...although not to the extent of the olden days, but certainly not reaching Lv.40 in a day.
- Whale Lovers, the players who play to sell gold/leveling services to people with more money than sense.
- Half Mirians, the players who play Mir for an hour a day and want all the drops/leveling to be super fast because they don't have time anymore now they've all grown up.

Find a good balance between all 3, and you will be in the 300+ numbers for about...2-3 months?

Focus on 1 aspect, you won't even touch 200 players.
Repeat/Rename and Reskin the server for a 5th time in a year, you don't even see 100...the ones you do see are the whales/addicts/bots and gold sellers.

What it definitely is not, is the lack of a decent Client lol. Numerous clients have been developed and updated from scratch, and have no problems running on high end PCs.

If you monitor forums, it is clear that that there is lots of WIProgress on servers in the making (pple asking for help with various issues), not just those few servers announced to open in the coming weeks, months.

As to '- True Mirians' above, their problem is that those running servers get impatient with them, that is with the players who on average make up the rear of the charts by definition due to the play style of the true Mirian :geek:.

These days servers starts giving weekend exp 'events' on their second week out, before long starting level gets jacked up which for the true Mirians usually feels like bridges being burned not far behind their back.

Sum of it is, your grinding and hard earned drops are devalued before long, it feels like the server owner spits at your accomplishments, basically telling you that you are the weight that retards the server progress...

Thing is server owners are proud of the new content of their servers which usually comes at later levels and they want their players to reach it fast to see the work they did on the server, to show off with new maps, mobs, flashy items, in short with that part of the server that most development work went into.

Treating exp as a hooker is the worst of todays servers, NO server is immune from that. Most start inflating, that is cheapening exp gaining from the day they open up for playing. That IMO is the #1 poison for mir scene, for the true Mirians. I don't even have to mention item inflation or even play style 'inflation' (when mir playing is reduced to direct teleporting from SZ to caves on most servers or something close to it).

Possibly the last server on which the exp and to large extent items gained were sacred was euro mir, never mind that the reason for that was its glacial, even locked development for years on end.

But for all this, I don't see mir going anywhere, it is timeless same as fairy tales for kids are. It could still find new players among all ages. Some years back, I happened to walk into a second had book shop that also sold game figurines and comics and in the basement room that had walls lined with those figurines I walked into a D&D gaming session in progress - some ten to fifteen guys from teens to 30+ ages playing the original card game. It felt like time travel into the past, I didn't know anything like that still existed LOL

valk v2 will never happen here LB :) the guys a scummy cheater ^^

Hanging onto that usercount drama for so long...like a twitter rant specialist.

I have faith Mir 2 will re-emerge, a 2 year+ server called "Chronicle's of Valk's Marble's".

Far from it.

Compare Mir to Myth of Soma - Soma only has 1 live server, the updates to the files have been minimal and yet the game is still going. Mir on the other hand has new servers coming up every month. The server files have came on a tonne in the past 10 years. Usercount combined on all servers is still high. Mir has a lot of life left yet.
