Legend of Mir 3 is one of the few programs that I'm unable to run with wine. I was very, very close but nope, that launcher ****s me up.

Anyway. So I have a Windows XP virtualized and it works as expected except for the performance. I've got a pretty new and powerful laptop (i7 7700HQ, 16GB of RAM, Nvidia 1050TI, etc). It is like 1000 times better than the P4 I used years ago to play Mir. The problem is, once I run the game it starts heating like if I was playing an AAA game. It's not the VM, I've tested that. I can run several VM without noticing it but as soon as Mir launches...

Any idea what could be the problem here?

Just what laptops do when you game, My gaming laptop has around the same spec as yours but only 12GB of ram and my laptop heats up pretty fast on Zircon specially if there's tempest spam.

Your intel anyway so it will cut off if it gets to a certain heat to prevent damage, Can always buy a Cooling mat for your laptop a little table thing with fans inside it ( when i use it, i can play Fortnite is Epic graphics and not get any heat build )

I just tried running it on a low end laptop (i3 4030U, 4GB of RAM, no dedi graphic cards) and I can barely notice the fans. The temps are almost the same as if I were watching youtube.

I would suspect if you forced VSync it won't overheat, even my 1070ti spins up on mir 3 because the FPS is in the thousands

I've been using VMWare Player lately and works better than VirtualBox, at least with Windows 10 guest. I ran 3.55, Zircon and Crystal without any problem. The only thing I miss is the option to scale low resolutions.

limiting the fps will resolve the heat issue... zircon does like 5k fps, anything more than ya monitors refresh rate is just wasted :P

I'm talking about 3.55 files and there's no such thing to limit fps. If there's a way it should be with some third party software.

It's not. I tried with DX Wrapper, all sort of stuff. **** was still laggy. :))

Some time ago I managed to make it work with wine. It worked almost like on Windows XP except for the transparencies, which for some reason were black.

I'll try it on XP in VMWare if I manage to find a VMWare file with the OS already installed. Or maybe it's time to forget about 3.55..

Beside Nostalgia i think no one should ever go back to 3.55 as we got better files now.
