So me and my team have been discussing maximum allowable res.

I personally feel that 1920 is too high for mir, it makes it harder to target and the images are too small, 1600 seems just about right.

So really what i'm after is a bit of feedback as to what max res you would prefer and why?

I personally like 1366 that's about perfect to know when a player is in range to cast a spell on, same for luring etc, with 1600 and 1920 it's so hard judging what's in range, i personally think they're both way to big of res for mir everything is to tiny.

I mean when GM's are posting screenshots in 1600 or 1920 i guess thats good for showing off the map and what not but for gameplay it's not so good.

i use 1024, 1280, 1366 and 1600. the max i go is 1600 but if i play fullscreen which i like to do then i use 1366 as it scales nicely to full screen on a 16:9

1920 is crispy!

Wear some reading glasses if you're struggling xD

It does look nice nobody is denying that but its impractical for fighting and even sometimes boss hunting, you have no clue when mobs are going to pull and everything looks tiny.

1366 Not quite full screen “3/4 of my monitor” perfect for Mir and still have the flexibility of accessing other shiz

i still dont get it: why does everyone only care about the first number in resolutions?
i think the most important number is the second one since you always see alot on the sides, but need that top/bottom view to really be aware of your surroundings

Only the blind will vote 800, if they can see it that is. I use 1366 all time tho

Specifying the second number is superfluous since it is given by industry standard, is not open to choice. So once you have 800, it implies the other number will necessarily be 600, similar for all other resolutions. If you tried to change that, assuming you even could, the aspect ratio would be messed up and picture would be distorted, stretched horizontally in your case, making the chars in game look short, fat... ;)

I still have and old 15" CRT monitor kicking around to fire it up to re-live the nostalgia of mir days past. On that size, 800 is the right resolution I think. Euro GN mir had only 800, right?

afraid you've got that quite wrong,
the second number depends on the aspect ratio of your choice (screen)
for example: my original 30" dell screen was 16:10 meaning if i set it to 1920> it'd have to be 1920:1200 for optimal behavior
current screen is 16:9 so 1920 would be 1920:1080
notice how both have 1920 at front but totaly different second numbers? (i could go on with widescreen monitors having even smaller secondary numbers etc

but overall: that secondary numer totaly matters and isnt automatically fixed based on first

I think we can just assume that they are the standard ratios based on the first numbers given. Don't need to get too technical, the Mir community get confused very easily. For example confusing a crypto currency with a Mir server...

Screen resolutions are the future.

Jokes aside. There's no "standard ratio" in Mir. The Mir resolution was 800x600 with a 4:3 ratio and 1920x1080 has a 16:9 ratio.

1920 for visuals but can be annoying missing the sides and not being able to target “out of reach areas”

I use to swear by 1920 but since going 1366 il never go back, also use to swear by full screen but since going 3/4 screen windowed also wouldn’t go back

Each to their own tho I spose, everyone’s different

Well then, get the physical monitor screen to fit the mir, so you don't get black stripes on sides. Sorry but from the way you asked, I assumed you don't know that much about these things as you obviously do.
Didn't want to make the explanation too complicated bringing in also the widescreen, different ratios displays. Anyway, this problem is a headache for the whole TV industry, it has no good solution. You can zoom in your picture, I believe it can be done on PCs too same as on TVs, and have the top and bottom parts of the picture cut off, that will rid you of the black side stripes :geek: (or else stretch the pic sidewise and get used to seeing everything fat)

As to OP query, it is always nice to include 1920 res. or at minimum 1600. I found on some displays, mir won't run in full screen mode due to the inability to switch res to that specified by mir and it helps to have more than one choice at the higher end, beyond 1366.
In windowed mode I find the view to small for my non-20/20 vision but played like that many times due to it being convenient and sometimes because the display would refuse to switch to full screen view (it would switch but display only black).

I posed the same question months ago.
1920x looks so much better with detailed maps. Mainly because the asset quality is less than stellar the lower the res you go.

There's a bunch of other game changes you would need to make to have it feel good tho. Not a quick job.

I'm guessing the second number wasn't mentioned because all servers have set res you can play in so we all know the second number following.

Whoever said about the black lines you can fix them in graphics option by scaling to full screen 16:9.

1366x768 16:9 is the most practical for game play looks like most agree, although 1920 does look pretty, if range scaled better to 1920 i would play it but the game really isn't meant to be run like that.
