just a question, how does the cpu actualy work, cos tbh, i always thought the higher ghz the faster it is, but i must be totaly wrong, as they always say amd's have alot lower ghz on them all, yet people always seem to say their better,

AMD CPUs have a shorter pipeline, and so process instructions faster.
As a result, a 2GHZ AMD CPU behaves like a 3GHZ Intel one.

may i just ask why intel just dont make short Pipelines. :P
p.s why the hell did i get 5 points, automated 5 points for swearing, yet all i said was 4 stars cos it gets filtered out. yea ok if it said the word but, even younger people who dont wanna see swear words cant even see it :l

The downside to a shorter pipeline is that you can't push the clock frequency as high.
Notice the Pentium-M has a pipeline length very similar to that of the AMD64, hence why it is the best Intel CPU.

See, Dual-core was supposed to be about dramatic performance increase, through a new architecture.
What Intel did with the Pentium D is the same as slicing 2 Skyline's down the middle, and sticking the fronts together. Sure, you get two engines, but you get a LOT more gas guzzling, and no way near double performance.
