Well i don't know about the memory, but i know you should push a lot more out of the CPU.

My A64 3000+ Venice is running at 2,65ghz lol.

Hmm, after 15 minuites of Oblivion, the CPU temperature rose to around 36degree.

I'm using arctic cooling.

I'm hoping to keep it around 2.4 ghz for now m8, just to keep on the safe side, until I meet some sort of bottleneck I don't think there's any need to shorten the CPU life any further lol.

Thanks for the input m8, the memory is worrying me tho :(

What sort of temperature max should I be looking for idle and during intense gaming/video coding + would you recommend any good software monitor?

Thanks again,
Turin

:O I got a BSOD during Oblivion, so I undid the stuff straight away. I'll redo it. How do I set dividers again :$?

Turin

ps - when I booted it after the BSOD, the temp in BIOS read 38 (C) for the processor. :|

I'll run prime95, but do I have to make special configurations for dual-core/HT?

I changed the BIOS settings for the memory from 166 to 133, is that ok?

How long should I run prime95 for?

Okies, I'll get to bed since I got school tomorrow lol.

I'll provide some feedback tomorrow, if the computer blows up in the middle of the night or something.

Good night m8 and thanks for the help, (u 2 Ragnar)

Okies, its been 7 hours running, I could let it run whilst I'm at school, but there have been no errors so far. Btw, did I set my RAM right?

I'll stop it and play Oblivion for an hour and see what happens , I think CPU 2 means my actual CPU and CPU1 is my graphic card?

Thanks again for your help! =)

CPU1 is probably* the chipset.

What memory dividers do you have?

It says CPU/14 in the FSB: DRAM on the memory tab of CPU-Z. In BIOS the memory is set to 133, on 166 it was ~217mhz.

Turin

ps - common sense would tell me my divider is 14 and should be ~12?

I thought 166mhz was the 12 divider :/ anyway, I used SysTool to change it to 150mhz.

I'll run the Prime thingy again over school to see if I get any errors.

[-----------------------------]

Divider currently set to 14 giving me a very stable rate of 177mhz but I'm losing out on an odd 23mhz/46mhz. :|

... do you think maybe I should push for 2.6ghz? It should level out the memory anomoly... but on air cooling?

Hope to hear your advice :)

Definately.

As i stated previously, my A64 3000+ is running at 2,65 ghz stable, and with air cooling.. so 2,6 won't be a problem for an Opteron. If i had one, i'd definately push it to atleast 2,8ghz =p.
