So this is something ive actually invested a fair amount if time in, and changed stuff, and edited and tried to make it look decent, rather than my usual "yeah, that ****ing looks ok" attitude. Some feedback on this would be great.

Obviously its a work in progress as its missing quite a few key features and so on. But some stuff i would really like to know is:

Whats the best way to the the outside border of a webpage. This is 800x600 so it doesnt fit a 1024x768 res perfect, but i generally get by that by making the page colour the same as the border colour, and people dont notice the difference. Is this an alright way to sort that problem, or are "sidebars" essential for something like this?.

Also, I need a copy of dreamweaver to code with. Ive only ever sucessfully coded one page, and that was pretty **** in itself, very messy, and used crap like I-frames which i now know are frowned upon.

So some general tips and coding info would be great.

Download trial version of dreamweaver 8 from here

Go to www.andr.net and get a key from there to unluck.

And if you dont have mozzila i suggest to not go to that site, you get alot of crap installed on your computer, like porn and stuff.

Btw, if you spent time on it at least have the decesensi (w/e you spell it) to make the border even even if you used a marque tool , inversed and painted black.

And the web layout i dont really like, its too dull id explain how everething makes it dull but i WoW awaits me. Oh and you'd probably find it in your heart to flame me so lets leave it at that.

PS - why dont you ask pixel to make you one?

So I was almost going to thank you when i read the first 2 lines, but then you started rambling **** that didnt make sense, spouted some crap, and then said you dont have time to leave any constructive feedback, cos you were going to play WoW. I asked for constructive criticism, and by that, i didn't mean you provide the words, and i make the sentence myself.

Also, why would i want to use a tutorial and change some colours? Wtf does that prove "hey everyone, check my layout, i made it entirely myself, buy copying someone else and changing the colours 100% ORIGINAL WOW."

Same with getting Ipixel to make me one, what do i myself learn out of getting someone else to do it for me? Its 99% likely im not going to use any of this on my site, its all 100% for practice.

Thanks Killer, can i ask what you think about the actual navigational box itself? The buttons themselves annoyed me as well, but so far im stuck for what to do with them. Ive tried a few different thing, but none of them really seem to fit into the site.

Tutorials are made to be used. And its better so people say 'amfg what a **** layout' :]

the nav com itself dont look right for some bizarre reason, i think it looks too sorta cartoony fake. but for the buttons try simple lines across the intire panel dividing each button up into a table looking effect.

I never thought I'd try to help you Atom, but I guess all things change ;)

--

Go grab the Smarty PHP templating system. IT'll let you jam code into that layout and create loads of pages with _extreme_ ease.

--

As for the layout, I like it, except for the plastic feel to the Navbar. Maybe some rough texture, or darkening the highlights a little would help?

Anyways, enjoy. If you need help with Smarty, send a PM my way. It's truely God's gift to web design.

yes. but it is a bright white and is sharp on the eyes.

maybe use a little bit of fade on it or use a white that has a hint of grey to it.

bountie. why are you so picky with everything? and 10 points on noticing that it is white (Y)

I know what you mean with the plastic feel, something i seel to have a real problem with on the designing side is consistency. I made the basic background etc first, then when i started on the Navbox i tried to keep the same style, but couldnt.

Im still a noob at this, i generally dont make serious attempts at things. So ill see what i can do to it. Ill also look up that templating system as well.

BountieHunter :- i know tutorials are a good way to learn things, infact, i do often look at them to get idea's or find out how to do something in particular. Using a tutorial to make a finished product is pointless though, its basically like comparing a "painting with numbers" to something somebody painted entirely from scratch. Sure, it looks good, but its nothing special, its just a step by step guide to copy someone elses work.

Anyway, thanks to everyone who left feedback, ill consider them and start working on it again tonight.

where is your cousin?

edit - love you if you had half a brain you would see that the white is contrastic with the background as its dark. And the whole point of that is to STAND OUT, althought you cant see the other bit but thats a diff story

sorry. you would know all about standing out. shame its for the wrong reason eh?

Ah right, say's that one that doesnt have the brains to figure out the font is actually white and its not emiting any brightness, yet you say 'the font is too bright' although its on default color white so how can it be bright? you could of just said to change the font but your an idiot and you post crap for the sake of posting. And stop replying.:tongue1:

Atom, Maybe try copying the navbar layer, render some uniform monochomatic noise, and do a motion blur on it.

Then, get a selection of the area of the original navbar, and slice off the extra from your new noise-blur layer.

Set the noise-blur to overlay, or multiply, and adjust the fill, and see what happens :)
