On a scale of 1 to 10 how hard is it to setup a private mir 3 server???? have never used mssql before, and have looked at the setup guide in the other threads. But it use's mssql 2000 which is no longer downloadable i was going to us 2008 ed and was wondering how much difference there was, between the two

cheers pete

to set it up with guides i would say 1/10.

To know what ur doing, to put effort in, to updates it all the time, to fix all bugs to, put up with ppl moaning at u as soon as u log in game or msn, then the loss of all ur players to mir 3 goble.

its really not worth it but gl any way

It is a little bit harder I setuped a mir 3 job 1.4 myself on a Windows Webserver 2008. Worked fine.
Right now I am trying the same with the VE/3.38/3.55.

I would say if you give a 4 to setup a server on 2000. Then its a 5 on 2008 xD. But it's more difficult if you never used MySQL, because you have no guides no nothing. Not many People did it already so there are not a lot of people who can help.

If you still want to try I can maybe help a little bit.

SQL 2008 is good to use, but more simpler using xp|2003|SQL2000. Works better for the 3G files.

Using 2008 doesn't make it 5 and only 4 on SQL2000, as the files are read the same and as for SQL2008, its a far heavier and memory buring program, where as SQL2000 isn't.

look in my newest thread there you can see that you cant use 2008 for a cruel dragon server mapadale answered me that so I would do a job (i build up the job server in max.20 min. so it is easy, maybe more difficult then 2000 ok but i got it done and never work with mysql befor that, too. And it runs)

And because of the numbers... sorry i am german so 10 is the hardest for me xD and 1 is easy sorry that miss understanding.
