Hey guys, a friend of mine has a killer gaming PC for sale and I said I would put it on these forums for him (hes not really a gamer himself hes a produces his own music.)

He said his asking price was £1000 but after I told him that was a little steep although it is a nice pc, minus the graphics, that could be slightly better. Anyway he said he would drop to £800.

Not bashing on this but you're right that its extremely overpriced.

The machine itself new in 2011 was £999 wear and tear over 3 years is going to take its toll.

Also just did a quick mock up of the machine, replaced the Case with the newer pantheon, upgraded (7870) graphics card, 3TB vs 1TB HDD and it comes out at £824 so all in all you were right to say he was asking to much.

Here's what I came up with:

Give him £100 for it.

and in no way shape or form is that an awesome "rig", could get one 2-3x better for just over 1k on PCSpecialist.

A PC is like a car, the minute you buy it you loose 30-40%, not to mention depreciation over 3 years.

I wouldn't go that far, nothing wrong with second hand parts as long as they're in working order. But technology ages like you say - that's the killer of value.

That would in my honest opinion fetch 500 pounds at best. I certainly wouldn't pay more for it.
