Milo sent me some info about Shanda announcing another class, Monk/Sholin... Whether or not these will make it into Chronicles completely depends on where we end up on the balance of the current 5 classes (we won't add a 6th class until we are happy with the current ones).

But, it looks interesting and I like that Mir has been evolving for 13 years and Chronicles will continue to evolve with it :)

20140618131345.jpg my friends were joking that the new character is coming to rob the stick from Taoist.
By the way, The new character is only allowed with one gender - man.

Interesting I didn't know this, are you able to provide any more info? I love new stuff like this even if it doesn't fit the initial style of Mir, just good that it's being kept alive.

I hope you don't mind me moving this to prevent multiple threads...

I find it very interesting that they're still building, to this extent, on such an old game. It's good though

i am excite.

Yeah really glad they're still adding on to game with substantial improvements, hope wemade still follow suite.

Also with the monk only being male, this would point me towards there being a 7th class only being female.

Sorry I do not have much time to translate the Chinese into English, I simply used google translater and some modifications by myself. But I think you can understand most of it. it is the role of the character.

the soldiers assault, Taoist assisted, Wiz output has their own position, assassins attack, Archer is the control field. Throughout the professional setting, but still lacks a can afford injuries, played yifudangguan Wan Fu Mo open action roles (i think he means a general). The Precept Monk skill set, just to fill the vacancy, with the agenda and Trick array, It can fully reflect the role of the profession in the game.

Precept Monk is King Kong, is human shields, Precept Monk on the battlefield can resist better than the soldiers! High attack, continuous output of the strongest! The more powerful the more high-end career. He has the effect of short-halo secondary role to the team. Precept Monk has a new skill cast model, abandon the traditional melee legendary cast process, using the most simple and immediate release, giving players a different experience melee!

Looking through it, it seems it been done in conjunction with wemade.

Makes sense - you don't have female monks although it would probably put off alot of the female audience.

Not sure about a new melee class? I think of a monk which is a hybrid between taoist, assassin and warrior. Low Def, High Melee and healing abilities. From the description it sounds like they plan to make a tank with high dps (not sure how this would work) as it would be a combination of assassin and warrior then making their class useless?

Would also depend on the skills, from the one image shown it looks like a dragon repulse from global mir 3 where you can an AOE attacking 3 spaces away from you all around and repulsing mobs from the centre outwards.

Also what would happen with kit? (I assume they will be lazy and make the class use DC, this would again increase the cost of DC kit and screw up the economy even more.)

Anyway good find, be nice to see the outcome of this.

My question is where it sits amongst the other classes. I also saw Taoists as a kind of Monk, when you think about the roles they play on other games. Either a cross between damage and (self)healing (tao?) or full on DD/combat (assassin?)

Was thinking the same, how on earth are they going to fit this class into the game when they already have a tao.

At a guess it's going to be some sort of melee-tao-wizz hybrid. Whether or not it's decent or it makes other classes less useful is unknown at this point but regardless I look forward to seeing it.

I think Shanda have a different approach to the classes than that of WeMade (I actually think their approach is far better, but a large portion of the community are so used to WeMade now that it has been the norm).

On Shanda I believe:
Warriors are tanks (high hp/defense, lowish DPS).
Wizards are damage dealers (High damage spells, but low health/defense).
Taoists are support (Medium at both damage and defense, but healers aswell, their Taoists arn't much different to ours).
Assassins are damage dealers (High damage but low hp/defense).
Archers are ranged tanks (Lower damage, but higher hp/defense than that of a wizard).

I think Monks are going to sit in the Medium Melee damage and Medium Defense range, I can foresee another class that is the medium for range classes also.

It is Imir they are added it to remember, not the proper Mir2 version, so much unbalanced crap gets added to that version, i would call it a test server for Shanda, i don't even think they have added Archer yet have they? Still being tested on imir?. Last time i looked they were just releasing Assassin.
I would be careful adding anything from imir tbh.

I am not sure I fully understand how many servers there are and/or what their purposes are, Milo has tried to explain on numerous occasions but it never really sinks in...

Once is a PK server right?

There's about 6 different official mir2 versions in China alone. None of them are proper. They just cater to different things. A lot of the features on mir2.sdo.com we'd consider unbalanced to be honest. So many massive AOE skills for every class, characters with 60k HP etc. iMir is just a different version of mir in China.

http://mir2.sdo.com - Last I checked they run at least 3 versions of Mir2 off that one client

Going to assume your referring to this picture
141qv6x.jpg

(It's a GM and a test server)
Not sure what the Aoe's your refering too though? have a link? The purple on that screen are just Wings.

Mir2.sdo.com is the proper version of Shanda, it's the version they purchased from Wemade (Pretty sure still partnered?) the other versions are customized version built from mir2.sdo.com, not very popular in China i hear, but sometimes Shanda may take something they have added to those other versions and add it to mir2.sdo.com.

mir2.sdo.com is nothing like Wemade past 1.8, hell Shanda ran it illegally for years till they worked through the legal issues. They share stuff now but not for years. And I don't have links to the AOE's (In work sadly :( ) They do have massive cooldowns but they're also full screen attacks. I'll see if I can find videos of the server later

It doesn't really matter, all I was saying is that the different versions cater to different people. And that there isn't one proper version that we as Europeans would take from. They all offer unique features we can borrow.
