I took a chance today to see if i could get DM2 TD files working on SQL2008 so to all those that are running TD's diamond files on 2000 and 20005 i thought id just let you know it is now also possible to have it running on 2008.

:-edit just incase you didnt see it the first time ive edited it in red as you can see i said nothing about it i was just letting people know it was possible..

heres an image of it working with the game running on my machine

Whats the difference? Do they use more resources? less? Are they more stable? Explain the benefits of not useing the standard 2000 ms sql.

on a side note tho zidio , new operating systems available mean its going to be impossible for newcomers to run the files on vista with MSSQL 2000.

possibly with Vista SP1 in the becoming available in the next month or 2 (RTM in march) would maybe mean that MSSQL 2005 would be no use aswell in the not too distant future.

i cant really say mate, im running on a quad core pc and cpu was at 9% memory was at 700-800meg but i have al lot of processes and services running (80+) without server and game .
i darent say how much its using but it does look like less ram and resources.

our SQL uses about 1.5gb of ram in total... maybe lookin into 2008 version would be an idea for us ><

Tested, not much of a difference really... TD has tweaked the settings of his version of SQL2000 so much that is run a hell of alot better then SQL2008 then... tested in on my computer and CPU and Ram were still pretty jumpy...

Saying that though Elvin, my old p4 3.2ghz pc can run mir fine, no lagg issues whatsoever.

I dont think this effect much at all. I was thinking that you have a **** load of processes running so that will jump up your memory usage.
I still have under 60 processes running with the server and thats what the memory of the host ppl should be all about. Nothing should be on them anyway.
Might be better after all. Its something i feel server owners will need to test out for themselves.

I agree with all you said Killmaster (old machine only had a 2.6 1gig ram p4 tho)

that said with all the processes on my Pc running and my memory usage in my opinion it looks like 2008 when finally released would be a good option for the filesand server owners especialy if server 2008 is on the host machines aswell.

I could try starting in safe mode with hardly any or no processes runing and check but i know that the mir.exe doesnt work in safe well it didnt on the old pc it had lots of dx and sound popup errors.

Reading blurb about anything after 2000 and it says the restore function isn't available.
TDs files require a restore on the databases.
What should I have visible in the Systray when SQL 2000 is installed ?
I see nothing that would offer me the chance to restore a db if the option is still there in the 2000 download.
The files might be easy to set up but the SQL is a complete bummer and there's no explanation how to do that.
Can anyone do a basic step by step guide for installing SQL 2000 ?
Delphi and the BDE is so much more straight forward :P

a fair explanation of setting up is here on this post
http://www.lomcn.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=54617&highlight=setup+sql or try serach function for setup sql or sql setup or similar even the mir3 setups are useful.

WTF? SQL2000 does work on vista... want proof? logon my server. There's no point using anything other than 2000 as it's the standard thing to use and it works fine aslong as you set it up right. Why fix something that was never broken in the first place?

Sorry if that seem'd a little harsh but there's no point saying things that are simply not true such as vista and MSSQL2000.

ive allready said somewhere on these forums that 2000 works on vista but it needed setting up and patching correctly,
as on install it says compatability problem patch after install.

this post was just about letting people know that 2000/2005 and 2008 work for the files. hence the post name SQL 2000, 2005 and 2008

no m8 , I had 2000 and vista working but some people just cant manage to get it going so i thought id test all versions :D.
I know now they all work. but 2008 is very different to the others.

I dont think i ever said 2000 worked on vista in this thread but i have said it somewhere either on here or the other forum
