5.9 is good for a hard drive, however an SSD would get you up to full marks. Since it only goes by the primary HDD, you could get a 30GB SSD to install windows on, and use the 1TB as a secondary drive to store all your data on.

i think 7.5 is the highest the rating goes at the moment.

Getting a Hybrid would do the same as getting an SSD and would cost less, however the rating of 5.9 is a good rating, as it's very rare that you see 7.5 on a machine that's not a server.

Jealy is correct; it tops out at 7.9. 5.9 is a low end score for a HDD. For example, a 4-5 year old 16MB cache HDD should be in that range +-.1.

But you also must remember that the WEI ratings mean virtually nothing.

If you are that concerned, run http://alex-is.de/PHP/fusion/downloads.php?cat_id=4 (preferably the sequential and access time tests) and http://www.attotech.com/products/product.php?sku=Disk_Benchmark and post the screenshots here. Also, post your drive information like make and model.
