  1. New memory - Again

According to those CPU-Z shots, you've already got 1gig of ram. It's consisting of 2x512mb, atm, running in single channel mode (for some bizzare reason, likely mismatched modules). If you then added a new 1gig module, you'd be up to a total of 2gig of ram. However, it would all be in single...
  2. New memory - Again

The only better match you'll find is actual matched pair kits. I doubt they'll run in dual-channel mode, by the way, since the different module sizes, and that you'll have 3 sticks of ram (Note the 512mb module size from CPU-Z, and your overall 1024mb RAM size, thus two modules of 512mb, and...
  3. Dilema

That's not a correct boot.ini. Are you using the one from C:\? It should be a hidden file, and so you'd need to expose those first. Paste the contents of your boot.ini into a new post here, before you reboot to use it.
  4. Leocrasher Retiring.

I've got a Zimmer Frame lined up just for you, Leo ;) -SA
  5. Dilema

How do you mean, didn't work? You extract the WinPE ISO to the right location(read: same hard disk as your TinyXP install, different folder), and make sure the NTLDR & boot.ini are pointing to the right parts (adapt the files in the PE ISO for this). Then, you reboot, select the Windows PE...
  6. Dilema

I know this sounds a little....extreme. But it worked for me once. -- Grab yourself an ISO of Windows PE, and extract it to your hard drive, overwriting & disabling your current TinyXP install. When you boot up, you'll see Windows PE's faithful command prompt. From there, use the prompt to...
  7. PC upgrade not what i was expecting

I seem to remember you being able to set affinity by right clicking the program in question, selecting properties, and looking around in there. Also, you should be able to make a shortcut to the "THG TaskAssign" program in your Start > All Programs > Startup program group.

http://www.amdzone.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=Sections&file=index&req=viewarticle&artid=125&page=1 Performance != Raw Speed While the 64bit codepaths do result in lower speeds (generally, and given they were conducted with immature drivers), there are IQ enhancements which counteract...
  9. PLEASE Can someone make a 1.4 server

If anything, the original spec 1.4 was too large for a typical private server to use. Personally, I'd like to see it scaled down a bit. Some maps removed, etc. So while you keep the feel of 1.4 original, it's on a scale more suitable to say, 30 players, as opposed to 2000 (Back in the good old...
  10. PLEASE Can someone make a 1.4 server

Great googamooga. Someone with taste. Indeed, it'll never happen. There's not enough demand. Guess we'll just have to dream on, MadeInEngland.
  11. PC upgrade not what i was expecting

Actually, your analogy is incorrect. Take a look at PS1 games on the PS2, which gain texture filtering. Or Compare Halo 2 on the Xbox, versus the Xbox360. The 360 version gains a resolution jump and anti aliasing, not to mention lighting improvements. -- You SHOULD be noticing a nice jump...
  12. PC upgrade not what i was expecting

Aha. I had got the false impression that all games were performing poorly :) Try Dataforce's Affinity trick, and see if that has any effect. -- XP Home supports dual-core, not dual-processor, so that should not be an issue.
  13. PC upgrade not what i was expecting

Is it possible you've got a defective 8600? I'd recommend RMAing the 8600, try swapping it for another. (You know the CPU & RAM work, as the motherboard likely is). Other than that, I can't think of much else it could be. Sorry.
  14. Thoughts on why we Feel Mir is Dying...

Mir dying.....hehe....I've been here before. Mir is dying because there aren't enough of those prepared to make the push. I tried once, but then you hit the second snag. "Community". Something I noticed as a difference between April 2003 (And LomCNs birth), compared to now, is that in April...
  15. PC upgrade not what i was expecting

Have you patched all the games up to their latest versions? With the 8600 being such a new card, it's likely that your problem sits with it, and poor driver/game support.
  16. PC upgrade not what i was expecting

Firstly - Have you reinstalled your OS? Secondly - Have you installed the latest chipset, graphics & CPU drivers?

Don't forget to allow port 80 access on any firewall software you may be using (Windows Firewall is enabled by default in XP SP2, remember).
  18. Access web messenger in college

Or, my personal favourite... Get a Tripod account, upload the files you need for your messenger of choice there, then FTP-download it on your school's computer ;) Remember, Internet explorer is an FTP client, and linux has several built into it ;)
