i want to run a lan server??

hi all im a total noob to hosting so i will tell you what i want to do i want to run my own private server over my lan so its just me and my other machines for guests to play on, also i have no files at all so i would need them like i say im a total noob to hosting so could any 1 help me set all this up plz??

ok cool i got a server running now its 1.4 and i want to add maps and items from other ppls servers(donno if im allow so thats why im asking) my server is only for me to play on so i hope its ok anyway how do i add maps and items on my server coz at the moment its just normal euro type server and i want to change exp and stuff to coz they all normal plz help

You need to use DBCommander , you should have installed it via , putting your server up.

You can make / edit or change exp , stats of items there.
