Do you have the new drivers for the mouse in a specific location such as a CD? If they aren't already on your new system, then it obviously won't find a driver automatically, since it can't find something that isn't in your system...

Some extremely specific gaming mouses will only work with drivers provided with them. However, most should work though direct connection.

The Matrix!!
Looking at that machine, I see no reason why it should have compatability problems with and mouse/keyboard peripherals.

Drivers should have nothing to do with it, they only come into play for specific key functions such as if it has more than 3 buttons etc. My Logitech MX1000 laser mouse runs without drivers (windows default pickup), but to get all 9 buttons configured I have to install the setpoint drivers. All USB mice that ive ever encountered get picked up as standard 'human interface devices' or 'human interface parsers' by windows. PS2 mice should be picked up as default after a momentary pause during windows bootup.

As for the mouse, go Logitech all the way. Ditch the Microsoft mouse and go for a logitech, try the MX1000 which I have, its a bloody superb rodent, best and most precise ive ever used in online gaming.
