Ive inherited a HUGE but ancient TV.

Basically, its got scart imput, but no vga imput. Is there a way to actually get the computer to play through the tv, sound etc included.

Ive seen VGA to scart leads, but heard sound doesnt work using them.

Any help appreciated.

If you have a decent laptop you'll want a dvi to scart, or even hdmi to scart.

They both do audio.

Don't know if it's possible though, look it up!

Edit:

Found a way it might work:

First you put one of these into your TV

Then you connect one of these into that, then into your sound on laptop:

Then you put this also into the scart converter:

Due to the last cable being really short, your gunna need to buy one of these to make it reach anywhere:

Lol you made that really hard and kinda expensive for yourself

Just buy this cheap VGA to scart cable http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SCART-TO-15-P...vr_id=&cguid=832383af1250a0e202159ba5ff4ad959

Then buy a mini jack to RCA to put into the sound input of the tv(should be a yellow socket)

If i remember most OLD TVS have both RCA and scart inputs.

I dont think that will work spence, that will require you to use two outputs on the tv, meaning effectively the visual and the audio are running on different channels.

Its like having two scarts plugged in. My way it only uses one scart socket.

You gotta bear in mind this tv ive got doesnt have a remote.

You won't get sound though, as the output on the back of a graphics card does not produce sound. You need to use a seperate sound card for this.

Also the way you have outlined will not work either.

Depending on the type of graphic card you had would determine on how you would use a TV and using a non LCD TV will give you dark images on the screen, as a normal TV doesn't have the full cabilitys to convert image over scart for 1080dpi.

The ways to do it are as follows.

S-Video to scart
S-Video to RGP output
HDMI to HDMI/Scart convertor
Dvi to S-Video.

this made me laugh because this is how i connect my laptop to my tele pmsl!

just use a S-Video cable (cost me £1.99) and the scarts are about what a pound! both sound and picture will be fine. p.s if u have a hifi connect the aux (red and white or even sometimes red and black) to a hifi, as i do mine with the aux cable to the hifi :thumbup2:

it will work with a s-video cable and a aux cable, you wont require another sound card, just add the jack part of the aux cable to your earphone part of the sound card. i am yet to have any problems with any of my movies, both HD (on a little set up like this) and normal dvd, never had a dark image at all, its been just like using a DVD player

Awesome. I was also considering using a VGA to Scart, then simply playing sound from speakers plugged into my laptop.
