Got a new PC, need to install Windows my self...

So i got my cd, put it into CD drive, computer boots up, then this happens

NVIDIA Boot Agent 244.0523
Copyright (C) 2001-2005 NVIDIA Corporation
Copyright (C) 1997-2000 Inel Corporation
PXE-E61: Media test faliure, check cable
PXE-M0F: Exiting NVIDIA Boot Agent

Reboot and Select proper Boot device
or Insert Boot Media in Selected Boot device and press a key

It just keeps doing this, with the Windows XP disk inserted in the CD Rom drive, and without me pressting a key?
WTF? lol
it's about Primary and Logical Drives. Make sure you boot with Partition Magic, then format C:\ to a Primary Partition, or IDE cable could be the problem

already tried that, just wont boot from cd - totally misses that out of the boot screen. (tried with an ubuntu cd, knoppix cd and 3 different XP Cds)

Could be the optical drive is knackered - the hdd was

she went and dropped the laptop when she was using it (duh)

what are the options in the bios?
and what are the current settings?
did you try reset to default?

Done em all! At this point i'd like to point out the fact im a pc repair tech!

I think it must be the optical drive is fked - aswell as th hdd - i put in an old 20gb laptop drive with a previous installation of xp pro and it boots - but bsod's and restarts.

So without booting from cd, i cant reformat it, but i cant boot from cd!
Will try a new optical drive next time i see her, but it aint a quick release like most laptops.

cheers for the help
