Laptops!

Hi,

I'm going to start college soon, so I need... well want a laptop because I'm very dependant on computers for organising myself and I can't take my PC everywhere with me.

Something cheap but effective please, I have my PC for gaming and so forth, but it needs to be competative and able to run latest photo editing software and possibly 3d editing in Cinema4D etc.

LomCN (a la UrbanFox) has given me plenty of advice before on buying PC's but I want to make sure I get a flexible deal with a laptop!

ps - I dunno about the price bracket because I've never bought a notebook/laptop before... but is £200-£600 reasonable? ($340-$1000 - x-rates.com)

pps - I am open to new experience - if you think that Apple's computer's might suite me better? Try me ^^

I got my laptop from there, very cheap laptops for what they contain. Very good value for money imo, I couldn't find better anywhere else.

Got this laptop, 60gb HDD, 512mb RAM, 64mb integrated gfx, Amd Turion 64 1.6ghz, 15.4" widescreen monitor, dvd-rw, for like 530 quid

i got mine from comet . It was £1000. Its a top noch one widescreen pentium 4 80gb hdd etc

well wot iwould do is buy a rubish cheap spec`d laptop and upgrade it pentium 4`s do cain battery power as the fan goes faster depending on what your doing on it e.g i ran a server on mie the fan was full blast all the time if you are only say useing msn it will we really quiet and wont use as much power this is the case with all P4`s tho

get a p4 if you want, and jsut run it on power all the time.

I have a centrino 2ghz and it runs most things nicely without problems

You're clinically insane if you think it's wise to buy a laptop now, when it's main use will be next year.

Given that Intel are in the process of making their Desktop chips comparable again, and the fact that the prices for things can only go down, you'd do well to wait a few months.

Stuff the new year sale, it's the mid-summer one you want to be looking at. By then, all the good stuff will be ready to be reduced, and you'll be buying cutting edge ready for your College year.
