Don't study Psychology kids!

No seriously, don't.

This made me lol.

You can't judge those that go to uni by the same standards there's VAST differences in every university. And those that employ graduates (as i know some don't -- partly, like my one of my rents, because they don't understand the system/difference.) I agree you can't judge purely by the whole First/2:1/2:2 marking system when you need to take into consideration experience in the working world, placements, and quality of education.
I would never have gone to university had i failed my a levels, as i would of only got into **** uni's...

But good luck guys (although it's late) and gratz where due!

go for it mate i did that course and came out with the full 360 UCAS points (triple distinction) and it put me in pretty good stead to join the RAF which is what i wanted to do up until the interview stage where i failed because they had to fail so many each year, i dont mind failing for not knowing stuff or because im not fit enough but failing for the sake of failing is gay :( not to put you off though its a decent course, not purely about public services, some of the units are based around health and fitness (crucial in everyday life) teamwork and leadership skills, theres one about past and current events such as terrorism which i found pretty cool n all sorts. oh and if your college supports a Cadet force which some do i highly recommend doing duke of edinburgh gold award :) i loved doin it and its just an extra thing to throw on the C.V and its not like you have to go out of your way to do it!

So someone who is now 21, been doing the job/similar job for 4-5 years, has lots of experience and good reference.

Against

Someone who studied for 4-5 years, just finished uni, only experience he has is working in a shop/bar (example only), but has a qualification.

You would seriously choose the student?

Because I know plenty of companies that would choose the opposite to you. Going by the fact I know people who struggle to find a job in what there qualification is for, as they hire someone with experience.
surely though it all depends on a. what the student did during his/her part time work and b. what his/her qualification is in i mean taking me for example im doing my degree currently in business management although i think for the final year im going to specialise in marketing side of it. thought business management is good all round degree learning loads about the way the whole system works in all aspects, but while im doing that iv done a couple of different jobs part time (from the start of college to present time - about 4 years) iv worked in a Pub restaurant and did work on all areas of that (except chef >< i cant cook toast!) even managed to get employee of the month after 2 months there, did some work in the petro-chemical industry again doin all sorts of work from working a reception desk right the way through to the shop floor and project designs/prototypes etc currently am working in a supermarket where im slowly working my around from cashier/portering outside/warehouse management etc its not the best job in the world but il take any job which pays £6-9 p/h atm not bad for 19 lol.

my point is all of my part time work i can link almost directly to my degree and my direction in life, throw in my other quals (full 11 GCSE's C and above, Triple distinction at A level (3xgrade A), DofE Gold Award, Queen Scout Award, Various cadet awards, a number of glittering references from both employees and places where i help out in my local community and other things i would see as recognisable,
surely would you not agree that i am in a much better stand than joe bloggs who left school with a handfull of GCSE's, did a couple of years fulltime in the business environment but merely floated along, didnt progress much in his time there, has an average CV and average references but still wants the same job???

i mean who would you pick then?
A. the student who is clearly motivated, done a bit of previous work which he progressed well in, good levels of teamwork and communication, reliable and hardworking to a deadline etc etc
or
B. the average joe bloggs who has a couple of years experience in this area but is most likely to cruise along lacking motivation or a strive to help push your business forward etc

Bottom line: University is awesome and by not going you are missing out both socially and professionally.

In my experience most of these people who left school at 16 did so because they failed their exams and had no other options left to them but to find work.

They employ polish people because polish people don't complain and works as much overtime as they can. They do this because they earn alot more in england then they would in poland, in poland they get paid around £3 an hour. I know i'd rather get our english minimun wage then £3 an hour :)
They earn it here then send it back to their loved ones.

also important to understand that not all polish are the same i know a couple of polish families (am at uni with 1 lad too) an they are really hard working, decent people which is alot more than i can say for some people who were born and bred in the uk.... not only that they also took the time to learn english so they can read/speak fluently etc

like i said just because some do, doesnt mean to say they all do :agree::bounce:

I have a 1/2 Polish housemate, she's sound although you wouldn't guess she was polish as that side of her family have been here for years.
