I read the first book and oh god, those books are just awful. They're complete Angst-Fests selling the idea of empowerment through nothing but random chance. People who like vampires want to have opportunity come to them and still be pitied; they don't want to work for anything or think for themselves. As long as they envision themselves as the flawless protagonists they'll still keep buying tons of the books, it's teenage wish fulfillment at its worst, with every bad vampire romance cliche thrown in for good measure. And Meyer doesn't even try to be subtle about the Mary Sue-ism she's throwing in there.
Sorry for the long reply, I just hate this with a passion, I lose respect for people who like these, yeah, it's that bad.
