NVQ in customer service is a handy quali to have. Could be the one thing that gets you the job over a douche.

Public Services Extended Diploma Level 3, you might aswell be prepared to have a gap year or go uni because the public services are not recruiting any time soon due to the recession.

Gap years are pointless, if you want to do something in the line of education then do it, don't put it off lol...a few people i knew took 'gap years' and they were so focused and set in their ways in terms of jobs and routines that they didn't want to go back to education lol

How the hell do BTECs even work? Seems to be a lot more people doing them than I expected.

Are they similar to an A-Level but just in a specialized subject, do they still last 2 years?

Spot on there mate, and grade-wise they are the same to A-levels but how many depends on which you do. The one I did is equivalent to 3.

And by 'equivalent' they mean according to UCAS...not all universities/employers agree

Yeah.

But from what I've found employers are starting to prefer BTECs (ones that are aware of them, anyway) to A-Levels because they specialise.

Not in the areas or industries which prefer you to have been to university. Don't know any jobs that i'd apply for that'd want me to have a BTEC over Alevels.
But i suppose they are more academic jobs (not to be snobby) where as BTEC's are techies/manual usually..

BTec's are fine as long as you can explain to an employer why you took one.

If you wanted to specialise in a subject that you knew you enjoyed and wanted to focus on then they will prefer that to doing A-levels which are in no way related.

Not to mention, most employers now just ask for how many UCAS points you got.

I wish I had known about them when I did my A-Levels, would have saved me having to do Biology and Physics just to bump up my points for uni.

BTECS mean jack nowadays, same with most low end qaulis.

Never went to college, did self study and on the job study.

Now have my MCSA/MCSE and CCNA
